Soooo I haven't blogged for almost a month...but hey, I've been up to my ears in college work and extra reading. Having found myself with a spare moment I would like to have a rant.
I gained some major cool points this weekend by staying in both Saturday and Sunday night to watch X Factor, out of habit more than interest, and came to a few conclusions most displayed through twitter and/or facebook. Now I feel it is time to share them with the blogging world.
Firstly on Saturday, one of the judges said something that broke my heart a little bit. It went along the lines of "Cher I see you as the future of the music industry" ...if Cher 'could turn around and punch you at any moment' Lloyd really is where the music industry is going god help us all. I don't think I could listen to a Radio 1 play list filled with spoilt brats and school bitches supposedly 'rapping' over generic drum beats whilst pulling stupid faces. Really what is it with everyone? What exactly is so special about her? ALSO something else I discovered tonight, the week Paije left Cher was actually the one at the bottom of the pile, I'm not happy at all. Surely in a competition voted for by the public they should have the deciding vote?!
Saturday also led to an angry tweet about One Direction being no where near as good as Ellie G singing 'Your Song' but I've already had a bit of a moan about X Factor contestants and Elton John songs so I'll let this one go, for now.
And now we come to Sunday. TWO HOURS LONG! That took stringing it out to a whole new level; towards the end of it I was getting bored and could have quite happily checked facebook later to find out who had won, but I stuck with it.
I watched Matt be crowned the 2010 winner and although I do believe he is a genuinely nice guy I really believe it should have been Rebecca's crown. Not only does she have an a-ma-zing voice but I think the X Factor "journey" would suit her much, much more than Matt.
Matt can sing, he can play guitar and from what I gather he can write too. Honestly, I think he would have been more suited to the life of a runner up...all the publicity but with more freedom. The winner's path in too controlled. For him to be a "credible recording artist" to quote Mr. Cowell I think second place would have done him good. However I am looking forward to hearing what his album has to offer, which will probably be out this time next year, as he could prove me wrong and write a bunch of cracking songs...despite what he has done to Biffy Clyro's MANY OF HORROR.
Yup, the winner's song is a cover (surprise, surprise) and as one of my friends pointed out on facebook it will probably become more well known than the original and for some dimwits they will probably not even realise it is a cover. That is my main point really, if you're going to do a cover, fine. Just don't rename it. As a Biffy Clyro fan I am disappointed that this version will most defiantly peak higher than Biffy's and many people won't even make the connection because it has been renamed. Also, unfortunately, Matt does not do it as well as Biffy...
Why would you rename it? Renaming it will not ever make it your song.
That is pretty much my rant over. And for everyone who says that you should turn off X Factor if it annoys you so much pffft to you, it's a great conversation topic on a Monday morning and well you have to watch X Factor it's, like, necessary. :P
Byeeeeeeeeeeee
PS Never Mind the Buzzcocks with Tim Westwood and the JLS sub-bench = genius

Dear xfactor contestants...
Dear X Factor contestants,
This is how you cover an Elton John song and make it your own whilst sounding amazing.

Guess what, guess what, guess what!
The mood of this blog is pure excitement....
I've only gone and had my 18th birthday. Remember, remember the 5th of November...yes, now I can legally drink and drive BUT NOT AT THE SAME TIME. I had a brilliant day, got some some fantastic presents, a sparkly cake and had a yummy meal with my family. Actually, I had a brilliant few days, partly down to my disorganised friends who made sure I had a stream of presents right up until Monday but mostly because of the small matter of Center Parcs.
On Sunday morning I was up a ten to six (a time of day that should never been seen except in important circumstances) and by twenty past seven I was in my car trying to sucker a sat nav to my windscreen. Sat nav in place, I picked up the besties and we were off to the Aqua Sana with Irish Sean guiding us there. We had a very chilled out day including free breakfast, free lunch, swimming, Starbucks, a hog roast and the day rounded off with fireworks. Best. Birthday. Ever.
But birthday celebrations don't end there this weekend I've got two 18th birthday meals...this could make first period history on Monday morning interesting. Sadly Saturday I have to be good and stay sober as a) I'm driving b) it's a lunchtime meal and c) I'm going to work straight after the meal. Roll on Sunday evening :P
This next part literally just got a whole lot more exciting...I was about to write about my offer from Brighton uni when I get an email telling me the status of my UCAS application had changed, so I abandon this post and off I go to check...I've got an offer from Sheffield! Booooom my top two unis have offered me a place. Fan-freaking-tastic, until I try and decide which one is my favourite...hmmmmm
Finally, gig update: Klaxons on Friday :D ...also happening on Friday: Carl Barat tickets go on sale and I'm having one of those absolutely no question about it.
Now I leave you excited and thinking about uni

Laura's adventures down south
At the beginning of this half term I left the familiar surroundings of a wet and miserable Norfolk and spent three days down south in Brighton and London. It was good, although I had been informed it would be wet and cold (pretty much Norfolk weather but with different views) so into my bag went my woolly hat, gloves, scarf and big winter coat. I was wrongly informed. It was cold, and my coat came in very useful, but mostly it was sunny and consequently I wished my sunglasses were on my face and not tucked away in a draw having been used about three times this summer.
Apart from misleading weather, Brighton was amazing. I loved it. We went to check out the uni, which I really liked and then spent the afternoon and evening wondering around the city. It has great night life and there's the beach and it even has a lemon bus...where you pay with lemons not money. Pretty good for the student folk. I would be very happy in Brighton. I did take a few pictures on my iPhone, because I forgot my camera this is probably the best one.
After Brighton came London. We drove in and went on the underground, which I don't particularly like...crammed next to random people and quite possibly the most confusing map I have ever seen. Add in my hopeless sense of direction and putting me on the underground is quite risky, should you want to see me again. However I wasn't navigating, and we ended up in Trafalgar Square. This was eventful. My younger brother, who doesn't like to listen and who can, at points, do very stupid things climb on one of those lions at the bottom of Nelson's Column...can you see where this is going? He then fell of said lion, scaring a tourist and making himself go green. After he drunk MY cherry tango and had some chocolate he was fine. But probably won't be climbing on some lions any time soon.
After finding out it would cost £25 per person to do one of those touristy bus tours, that idea was abandoned and we headed for Regent Street. Impressive in its shopping possibilities, depressing when you have no money to spend. So, window shopping was in order before we headed for Covent Garden for lunch/dinner & pear cider at the Punch and Judy. This I liked. We also saw some of the street performers who were amazing and unfortunately put the puppet man of Norwich to shame...Covent Garden market helped expand my jewellery collection as I bought another fabulous statement ring.
Then with a bag of Percy Pigs and my iPod it was homeward bound to a very noisy cat who appeared to have licked her bowl clean and a room which was much messier than I remember it being when we left.
And so we come to the end of my adventures and I'm left with the excitement of tidying my room...

I heart Nicky Wire
As I wrote last time I blogged gig season is well and truly back, and in honour of this wonderful season I thought I would share with you a photo of the legend that is Nicky Wire and his feather boa covered microphone stand. I took this last night. When Manic Street Preachers came to Norwich. It was awesome.

It's been a while
As the title of this blog would indicate it's been a while since my last blog, to be fair I have been very busy with college work, coursework, work work and UCAS/uni stuff. (I'm so cool I scare myself sometimes :P) So, at midnight after a busy shift at work I find myself in the mood to do some blogging...I'm pretty sure I'm becoming nocturnal, which is worrying as I have stuff I need to do during the day.
Anyway, life is being pretty damn good to me since I've been absent blog wise.
I love being able to drive anywhere any time I want...speaking of driving, I got my awesome pink, official driving licence on Friday morning and was quickly off to college (I may have been running late) to wave it at my friends and suggest we did something in the evening. We did do something, I drove them all to Norwich in the dark and the rain so we could go and see 'The Social Network' or 'the film about Facebook'. It was an very, very good film and I am extremely pleased to tell you that on Friday evening as well as all the driving, I filled my car up with fuel AND navigated a multi-storey car park for the first time. Hell yeah!
More goods times ahead I sense. The gig season is back in full swing I am pleased to announce, starting with the NME radar tour a couple of weeks ago. It was awesome, The Joy Formidable were amazing and Chapel Club were cool too. I did not like Flats, I'm going to be blunt and say they were pretty shit. Tomorrow (or should I say today, it is after all Sunday morning...) we're off to see Manic Street Preachers. In Norfolk. In Norwich. At the UEA. :O ...very happy they are venturing into lovely Naaarfolk we do often get missed out on the old tours. Then next week I'm off to see The Charlatans, sweet. If that wasn't enough, also coming up are Klaxons, Athlete and Ellie Goulding. I'm going to start a petrol fund pot in my car because I know that with gigs and a trip to Center Parcs coming up I'm going to need some cash off my friends, otherwise we could end up stranded somewhere and my mum has already told me she's not rescuing us if that happens.
Something else that has happened in my absence for my blog is that I went to work to eat, not waitress. Quite possibly one of the weirdest things I have done. I'm not going to lie, the fact five messy and loud children were present, all of whom had the potential to embarrass me in front of my bosses and people I work with, was quite stressful. But the food more than made up for it, my lunch was delicious. Now I know the food is good, I serve it to people at least twice a week, but looking at it and scrounging the leftovers obviously does not compare to actually sitting down and eating it. Yummy, yummy, yummy. Soup, pork and chocolate fondant, plus petits fours *drools at the memory*. Yes, it was a bit weird and slightly stressful, but it was worth it. Whilst we were there, I was told by my boss that I "scrub up well" ...this I quite liked, it made me laugh. On slightly more vain note, I enjoyed the fact I could show off my curly whirly hair to everyone at work, who normally just see it all tied up...I hate that.
Well I've rambled for a bit, it's late and I'm tired...I best be off

A bit jumbled, but with good reason
Well today was pretty darn good...I only went and passed my driving test with two minors! Hell to the freaking yeah! (OK it was second time, but everyone knows the best people pass second time) here is a picture of the now irrelevant L plates:
Never again shall they be stuck to my car! Oh yeah!
And if today couldn't get any better, today mum booked me and my two besties a day at the Center Parcs spa for my birthday. A day of chilling out, the pool, good food and fireworks, ohhhh I hate the fact I have to wait until November.
As a result of these two amazing things I have had a stupid grin on my face ever since 1:15 this afternoon and have absolutely no hope of being able to string together a decent sentence for my photography research...oh well, there's always tomorrow :P

Les Yeux Ouverts
It's a rainy Sunday afternoon, which means only one thing: film time.
I will admit I am not a 'movie-geek', I've barely seen any of the classics and in my DVD collection I have a grand total of 15 DVDs as I'm the kind of person who finds a film they love and watches it repeatedly. I am trying to expand my horizons and a couple of weeks ago we started watching Back to the Future, but the DVD stopped working about an hour in and that was the end of that. I feel it was a sign and that I should stick to what I like, having said that I'm planning a cinema trip to see Tamara Drew (Dominic Cooper...mmmhmmm) and Despicable Me (those little yellow blobs are just pure awesomeness).
Anyway, I seem to have gone off the point somewhat. This afternoon I sat down and watched The Devil Wears Prada, described as a comedy-drama by wiki...not a bad combo tbh, I have seen this film many times and I love it. Meryl Streep is amazing and for some unknown reason, I want to work at her magazine. No, forget that, I want to be her...although maybe a bit nicer and less demanding. When I am an editor-in-chief I shall be as pure awesome as her. :P
I thought my love of this film couldn't be increased until I heard in the background of one of the Paris scenes Dream a Little Dream, only it was in French. Now, I don't speak a word of French (I have my high school automatically deciding German was the foreign language for me to thank for that) but that language so just SO. DAMN. SEXY. So seeing as I am part of the technological teenage generation I was straight on to YouTube, found said song and have been listening to it for the rest of the afternoon.
And now I finally come to the actual point of this blog, to share this very sexy song with you, the lovely people reading my blog. Enjoy...

A little later than promised...
I’m going topical for this blog post. Partly because in world of journalism you don’t just have to write down all the random thoughts in your head, at some point you will actually have to write about something relevant, but mostly because this issue is something that I do in fact feel quite passionate about.
The Commonwealth games are hitting Delhi this year and tomorrow (3rd of October) it all begins. As a fan of athletics I am excited, just like I am every time a major Athletics event invades our television screens. I always have, and probably always will, love this type of sporting event (I’m blaming indoctrination from a very early age) but this year I am somewhat conflicted.
We all know India is country riddle by poverty, slums and child labour, but how many of us are aware of exactly how bad it is there? I have been on Google and on Wikipedia and have found some basic facts that have not only shocked me, but also opened my eyes to exactly how terrible the situation is in India.
- The nation is estimated to have a third of the world's poor, with 42% of India falling below the international poverty line of $1.25 a day
- The number of people living in slums in India has more than doubled in the past two decades and now exceeds the entire population of Britain.
- The number of people living in slums is projected to rise to 93 million in 2011 or 7.75 percent of the total population, almost double the population of Britain.
- India has the largest number of children under the age of 15 in work in the world. Some estimates put the figure at 100 million children. In some cases, young children are forced to work for long hours for low pay and in dangerous conditions.
This is just the result of ten minutes of searching, I’m sure there is plenty more to be found out there. Of course poverty, slums and child labour are not unique to India, and there are countries and populations that have it worse. However, what astounds me is how India can justify spending $6.51 billion (making this year’s games the most expensive in history) on a sporting event when that money could be put to so much better use helping the people of their country. And they can’t use the excuse “its ok, the situation is improving” because it isn’t. It’s getting worse. Slum populations are increasing, which means the number of people living in poverty is increasing. 100 million children have to work instead of getting an education, enjoying their childhood and living without the responsibilities of an adult. They are being forced to grow up and are deprived of something they should have a basic right to.
While the country is busy shelling out billions for the games, Comic Relief has been spending the money to help the people of India. This year Comic Relief donated a total of £1,728,707 to five different charities whose aims are to do their best for the people, particularly the children, of India. This in itself is brilliant and is the result of lots of hard fund raising and charity events, but if you put that figure alongside the figure of $6.51 billion you can hardly compare them, such is the extravagance of the sum needed to make the games happen. So much good could have been done and so many people helped with $6.51 billion.
This leaves me with the knowledge that as I watch the Commonwealth games this year, in the back of my mind I’ll have that nagging thought of “who could have benefitted if the money have been spent of something other than a brand new stadium?” And “why is it left to charities like Comic Relief, rather than the government, to do some good in a country obviously crying out for help?”

Fresh Prince of Bel Air as never before
How awesome, download from here: http://www.ilictronix.com/2010/09/uffies-faceplant-and-mustard.html
I grew up watching and loving the Fresh Prince of Bel Air and I can safely say I know all the words to the intro...so the fact I have come across this via Facebook, via my friend has made my day.
Enjoy :D

Little Red Riding Hood alla Laura
I haven't blogged properly for a while so I thought I'd stick this up here. This was a piece of English work I did a couple of months ago in preparation for my English coursework, transforming the fairytale Little Red Riding Hood into an newspaper article for The Sun/popular daily newspaper.
Enjoy :)
Enjoy :)
MARRIED MUM AND HERO IN SHOCK FLING
Local hero Greg Cutting, the man who saved a young girl and her Nan from a frightening wolf attack has been romantically linked just days later with the girl’s married mum.
SUN EXCULISVE
Just two weeks ago Ruby Red went to see her Nan who lives on Church Street, only when she got there a normal visit turned into a nightmare.
A wolf had broken in and attacked Ruby’s Nan, then it turned on Ruby as she called out for help.
It was the young girl’s screams of fear that first caught Greg’s attention as he was walking to work. Speaking to us just hours after his rescue of Ruby and her Nan he said “Of course I ran to help, you know, what else was I supposed to do? You hear a girl scream, you run, right?”
And now, Greg and Ruby’s married mum Debby have been seen on a number of occasions enjoying romantic dinners and trips to the cinema. This surprising turn of events has shocked Debby’s friends and family as we can exclusively reveal that her ex-husband moved out only a matter of days before the attack.
A source close to Debby has told us “Well, Dave only left a couple of weeks ago, he’s not happy, I mean some guy’s just rolled up, acted the hero and now he’s having it away with the women Dave is still married to...”
Our source then told us that Dave is so angry that not only is he going to demand a divorce, but he is looking file for full custody of Ruby. “I agree with him, if Debby is so keen to get another bloke rather than look after he own daughter, then she isn’t good enough for our Dave or responsible enough to be a proper mum.”
Debby, 26, originally from Leeds has a less than perfect reputation when it comes to staying faithful. Another source has revealed there is a string of “fellas” who can be linked to Debby and that it was only a matter of time before Dave packed up and left.
It seems that Debby was only too happy to show Greg just how thankful she was for his heroic actions. Their first date in the popular restaurant, Nando’s, took place just a day after the frightening event. Over the next few days Greg and Debby were spotted hand in hand in the local park, having a sneaky snog outside a local cinema and cosying up in Starbucks.
Debby’s mum, who was saved by Greg, spoke to us and told us that she was also shocked by her daughter’s actions. “Never has she acted so stupidly, I mean she’s made a few mistakes in the past, what with the affair and everything, but to be so blatant about another affair when Dave only left two weeks ago, well if I’m honest I’m ashamed. Of course, say thank you, but say it with a card not with a date.”
What started out as a simple rescue of a young girl and her Nan has turned into a messy affair, which could lead to a family being ripped apart and a girl losing her mum. Debby’s selfish and hasty actions have produced consequences that will affect her daughter for a long time to come, and leave her with many emotional problems.
“A quick and simple ending would be best for everyone, but I don’t think that will happen somehow.” Concluded Debby’s mum.

It's guy love...
A few months ago hordes of swooning women were sent into screaming frenzies when the news was announced that Robbie Williams was rejoining Take That. Further screams of delight could be heard up and down the country when the reunited five-some revealed they would be releasing an album in November this year (just in time for Christmas maybe?) and be touring in 2011. But that’s not all, Robbie and Gary have only gone and released a single together. :O
Yes, they have put their differences aside and have released a truly ‘bromantic’ single so the world can see how much they love each other. After several views of the video thanks to the music channel permanently on the big screen TV in the brand spanking new cafe at college, I feel qualified to declare they have a full on bromance in progress. The video is full of longing glances, meaningful eye contact, a fishing trip just for two and even some torso related flesh on display. It seems that guy love is all around and there’s no shame in that...see what I did there?
Admittedly it’s not my kind of music; give me a bit of Carl and Pete and their bromance any day, but in a chart full of soulless Euro-pop and a ridiculous Ninja related song it’s nice to see a song genuinely full of emotion and passion for what they do. Long live the guy love.
See the guy love for yourself:

A more exciting week than last week
Time to update you on my life.
This past week-ish has been quite good, and also includes a few new discoveries.
So the fairly average stuff first: I re-enrolled at college and it chucked it down, I've been to work several times, almost finished my personal statement and attempted to bring about some order to the chaos that is my room.
Now for the good stuff:

So the fairly average stuff first: I re-enrolled at college and it chucked it down, I've been to work several times, almost finished my personal statement and attempted to bring about some order to the chaos that is my room.
Now for the good stuff:
- My friend returned from down under and brought back Tim Tams (which are not as good as penguins), a multicoloured lizard that is on my wall, a mini koala that is on my curtain and some kangaroo jerky (it tasted disgusting, I would not recommend it). Having not seen her for a month we were back there the next day to camp in her garage, as you do.
- My friends played at the B2 in Norwich, so I went and watched them do their "female fuelled punk" thang
- I have rediscovered a liking for Quavers
- Musical discoveries were made in the form of Hurts - Wonderful Life and Everything Everything - My Kz, Ur BF
And so we come to this morning...at exactly 9:07am I received my confirmation email from seetickets.com that I have booked to attend Reading Festival 2011. Hell to the freaking yeah! Yes, I was up, on my laptop, with my debit card in hand and gig buddy (now festival buddy too) MSN-ing me so we could coordinate our purchasing, deciding whether or not we needed a locker, early entry and exactly what was the difference between green and white car parks? FYI I chose the green car park...I prefer green. This morning pretty much made my week and I have had stupid grin on my face ever since 9:07am. XD <<<< Like that
Now I find myself in the last week of my summer holiday and as predicted at the start of my 6 weeks of freedom I have left my English and Photography work until now to be completed...bad Laura...so I know what I am going to be doing this week *sigh*

Ignore the rain and watch something brilliant...
It's wet, it's windy, it's cold and it’s AUGUST?!...yes, a truly awful summer is upon us and it has led to afternoons and evenings not spent outside with a glass of Pimm’s breathing in the drool inducing smells of a BBQ, but a summer spent curled up on the sofa watching TV whilst wind and rain batters the windows.
As a nation we have been herded indoors and with almost all of our favourite series having had their finales in June/July and not coming back until at least September, we are left to the mediocre TV listings intended for those unwilling to embrace the expected summer sun. However, amongst the ‘just sit there and stare’ likes of Big Brother (admittedly my guilty pleasure), the X-factor and various soaps, there is a big shining gem of a TV show.
Must Be the Music is a TV musical talent contest, but it is nothing like its closest comparison, the X-Factor. As it says on the website:
“The search is on for Britain & Ireland's best new music act! Real superstar talent, Dizzee Rascal, Jamie Cullum & Sharleen Spiteri judges new music talent”.
For me this show really lives up to what it claims to be, it focuses purely on the music and not the sob stories so common on the X-Factor, it also does not discriminate against anyone who doesn’t fit the typical pop mould dominating the charts recently. It’s a show that allows the artists to be themselves and doesn’t turn its back on someone who isn’t singing a “current” (Mr. Cowell’s favourite buzz word) song. In fact, it actually lets the artists showcase songs they themselves have written...quite frankly I was amazed at the talent just in the very first episode. From harpists to rock bands, from steel drums to acoustic guitars everyone is given the opportunity to shine.
Just a few of the hugely talented acts that have caught my eye include:
· Pepper and Piano – a pianist and singer combo who had never performed in front of anyone before their audition and whose raw talent and passion shone through in their performance and may have even brought a tear to my eye.
· Flow Dem – five hip-hop and rapping teens from Wales who just make me smile.
· The Pictures – another five piece, this time an Indie/Alternative (for want of a better description) band, with a front man whose sound is fresh and a pleasant change from the ‘norm’.
· Emma’s Imagination – one girl and her guitar, a busker from Scotland who I would give all my change to if I saw her performing on the streets of Norwich.
· Missing Andy – a self proclaimed Britpop/rock five piece with meaningful lyrics, bucket loads of passion and who have an air of The Enemy about them.
Admittedly there are the necessary “are they for real?” acts but good dose of them will liven up any show, my personal favourite from the series would be the cringe inducing heavy metal Christian band.
As for the judges? Well, they’re not short of talent either, between the three of them they have accumulated: four platinum albums, nine gold albums, one silver album, ten UK top 10 albums, two UK number 1 albums, fourteen top 10 singles, four number 1 singles, a Mercury music prize and two Brit awards. It puts the X-factor panel to shame really.
Straight talking Dizzee Rascal, jazz extraordinaire Jamie Cullum and Texas front woman Sharleen Spiteri make up a dynamic and diverse musical judging panel perfect for finding the next British music legend. They deliver the critique or compliments without the unnecessary drama and as a panel have brilliant chemistry, bouncing off each other superbly with a real eye for the ‘next big thing’. Something tells me these acts are in good hands.
So, all that’s left for me to say is ignore the downpour that summer 2010 has become and switch on MBTM, you will not be disappointed.

Passions
It’s 2am on a year 9 camping trip; two teachers, my friends and I are sat in a one-doored shed in a field waiting for the downpour of rain to stop (how very British) so we can go back to our now very damp tents and sleep. To pass the time various questions are being asked including “What is love?” Now, this is a difficult question at the best of times but add on the time, two previous nights of disturbed sleep and what I like to call “tent lag” and this is almost impossible. Teachers: always challenging the mind even at 2am.
Everything is going smoothly until my teacher asks: What are you passionate about? At this point my mind is working overtime, thinking about everything I do, have done and even everything I would like to do. This in itself answers the question for me, surely if I have to think so hard do I actually have a passion? So, without wanting to seem completely stupid I half heartedly mutter something about swimming, my current hobby, but, having never been a very good liar and the complete lack of enthusiasm with which the answer was given it’s quite obvious swimming is not my passion. The shock that I didn’t have a passion completely threw me and at the age of 14 I decided to try and find something I was passionate about. Little did I know it had been staring me in the face the entire time and only in the last year/year and half have I really recognised my passion.
English, it’s plain and simple I’m passionate about English. Reading, writing, the opinions, the interpretations and the issues addressed. Having always been completely obsessed with reading and regularly writing my own short stories as a child it would seem obvious that English would be my passion, but I think, for me, it was a case of looking too hard to find something that was already there. With the daunting task of writing a personal statement about why I love English I thought a blog post would be the best way to start putting together some ideas and constructing said personal statement. So why do I love English?
What I like most is the freedom English gives you to form your own opinions and interpretations, and how two different people can come to different conclusions about the same text yet they are still both right. I also like how this freedom extends to writing and how no issue seems too big to conquer or challenge, thus allowing eyes to be opened and minds to question said controversial issues. One of my favourite examples of this is To Kill a Mockingbird, there has been a wide selection of books looking at racial inequality and the unjust criminal justice system in southern America but this book caught my attention due to the way in which it is told. Through the eyes of a child a horrific crime and inequality is addressed and lead to the book becoming a modern classic and deservedly so. The fresh narrative perspective really caught my eye and it is a book that has become well thumbed and remained a favourite of mine.
It sounds cliché but I would quite happily spend my days devouring novel after novel lost in worlds that range from the Great Depression of America in Of Mice and Men to the wild setting of Transylvania in Dracula and to the thought provoking Noughts and Crosses series. The ability novels present me to escape from reality and take time out of a semi-hectic life to just relax and spy one someone else’s life is a factor that inspires me to keep reading as many books as I can. It’s like one long Facebook post or Twitter tweet, only a hundred times better. Of course I am also challenging my bookcase to cope with the ever growing weight and how can you resist that new book smell. :P
So there you have it, a brief introduction into why I love English and a nice little bit of writing to introduce and go along with it. Two birds, one stone spring to mind...
And to quote my favourite bouncing Tiger “TTFN...ta ta for now!” :)
The beginning...
I had a blog, I started it in January planning to write something (my thought, articles, reviews etc.) at least once a week to get my writing into the big wide world of the web and kick start my plans of entering the world of journalism and ultimately realise my dream of becoming a legendary magazine Editor-in-Chief. It will happen and one day you'll know my name :P ...anyway this blog was left dusty and forgotten as I was dragged kicking and screaming into the world of revision and AS level exams so, I deleted that blog and decided to start fresh with this one. New blog, new enthusiasm, hopefully new dedication.
And so I shall be sharing my thoughts and writing with you lucky people who are reading my blog...I am hoping that this will be more productive than flicking between Facebook and Twitter and thus wasting my days 'stalking' my friends and favourite celebrities. Also if you're really lucky I might actually get my bum in gear, get out and take some pictures on my very, very, very lovely camera and show my pictures off as well.
Now it's time for me to go, and for you to eagerly await my next blog :P
